'Tis the Season

As I stood at my podium at work, I felt like I was going to collapse. I had worked a double, dealt with angry customers all day and night, and was incredibly hungry.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but jolly Saint Nick (sans reindeer). Instantly I turned into Buddy the Elf. "SANTA!!!" I squealed and childishly waved at his as if we were besties.

"Where can I seat you, Mr. Claus?" I exclaimed.

"I think I am going to take seat at the bar. Celebrate my long day!" he said with a grin and twinkle in his eyes. The he headed towards the bar with a woman who I am pretty sure what not Mrs. Claus...

I giggled and then went back to cleaning. I went from feeling like I was going to die to floating around the restaurant happily gathering random strangers unfinished buttery food.

I was amazed how one person had such an impact on my mood. I pondered on it for some time, and then the true meaning of the holiday season made sense to me. It's more than presents, music, food, and shopping. It is about sharing cheer, love, and celebration.

If you are religious,  you are celebrating and rejoicing the birth of someone so wonderful that changed the world. If you are not, you are celebrating a season of excitement, giving, and receiving. Now these two share one major theme: love and rejoice. This holiday didn't just happen at this time of year for no reason. December is the start of winter, and for a lot of places across the world that mean cold, dark, and shitty weather. So instead of dreading this time of the year, Christmas gives us all something to look forward to. Coincidence. I think not.

However, there as those who do dread this time of year. SO, I would like all of you to take a step back and rethink the holiday season. I know Christmas is a week away, but there is still time. This outlook doesn't have to end now. There is more to Christmas shopping, cooking, etc.It is meant to share happines, snd  love. It gives us something to believe in.

So sit back, turn up those cheerful Christmas tunes. Instead of stressing about giving gifts, share a smile and some simple kindness. ( I mean... presents are pretty cool too if you're feeling it.)

Christmas and a new year are approaching, so be excited about it! Celebrate in whatever way works for you. And if you're like Santa, take a moment, sit back, and enjoy a cold one.

Season's greetings folks,
