Who Tells Your Story

Three years ago today was one of the hardest days of my life. I didn't know how to handle the loss of a friend, and I still don't. However, one thing I do know is to keep her memory alive. I wrote this article for the newspaper at my college before she passed, when there was still hope. I sent it in too late so it never got published. I think it's about time I shared it. I vow to never stop telling your story Kelcey Hallinan. I love you always and forever.

September 20, 2013
Kelcey Hallinan is the strongest 18 year old that I know. She was  diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in December 2011, during her junior year of high school. She was only 17, and this was the last thing anyone expected to happen. She was incredibly active in the drama club, band, and choir at our school, but didn't let this stop her. She went to school as much as she could and graduated on time this past June. She continued doing shows, concerts, going out with her friends, obsessesing over One Direction, etc. She was even able to audition here at DeSales, where she got accepted and a scholarship to the musical theater department. All  was going well until her health started to decline. We found out about two weeks ago that her body is not strong enough to undergo anymore treatment and her condition is worsening. So basically that she doesn't have too much time left. As shocking and devestating as this was, as her friends we wanted to try to focus on the postitve- like gettting her make a wish ( to meet One Direction) to happen. She wasn't healthy enough to meet them so she had an alternative of having band member Harry Styles tweet at her. I'm not sure who wrote the first tweet, her sister Molly, or one of her friends still in high school, but once the first one went out the campaign began. I tweeted/retweeted #HarryTweetKelcey at least 100x a day and so did all her friends and the people in our town Dunmore. All of us started to spread the story and I got so many people here at DeSales to even do it. It was incredible. Celebrities, like Jason Mraz, we even tweeting her and Harry Styles! By the third day, she finally got her wish. It was incredible. I cried. She cried. I think everyone on twitter at the time was probably in tears. He Skyped her a couple days later and gave her phone number in case she ever needed it. He was just so supportive and loving towards her and they still are talking now! When I was at her house last weekend he even said hi to me via text!! It is just such an unreal situtation. The love and support of people who knew her and even people who didn't to help get Harry to tweet her is still overwhelming to me. Just so much love. Kelcey is like family to me, I have been best friends with her and her sister for so long now , and their family means everything to me. We don't know as of now how long she has but, I am so grateful and overjoyed that Kelcey was able to get her wish.  💜

Til next time,
